After working hard for most of our lives, we all deserve a high quality of life in our retirement and knowing that I can play a part in helping people achieve those goals is incredibly rewarding.

After 20 years in the Self Managed Super Fund (SMSF) industry, I've taken a long overdue sabbatical to reflect on what has worked and what hasn't with the five businesses and brands I’ve had the privilege to lead. Not many businesses get the chance to start anew with all the knowledge and experience from their career, combined with a completely clean slate. I’ve embraced this opportunity with tenacity.

Setting up the operational aspects of SMSFAI was a breeze. However, to establish a market-leading SMSF admin service looking to the next 20 years, it’s vital to maintain a point of differentiation and stay ahead of the crowd. And I’ve found it: Artificial Intelligence (AI).

AI is set to be the next biggest thing to impact our lives since the internet. And, if you’re like me, when you think of AI, you might get grim flashbacks to Arnold Schwarzenegger and ‘The Terminator’. But - like most frightening things in life, you can either choose to ignore AI or embrace it. You can guess my choice.

What I’ve learned about AI is extraordinary.

Did you know by the end of 2024 up to 90% of the content you access online will be created by AI? 

The most important thing about AI I can’t stress enough, is by becoming an adapter, you can significantly enhance your personalized service, rather than do away with it. 

Let me go on record as saying – I do not believe AI will replace the need for a Professional when it comes to running an SMSF. But it sure can compliment them, allowing for a greater client outcome with less human input. I’ve identified next-level technology upon which my new business has been built.

Forget bound paper copies of financial statements being sent via Snail Mail (Australia Post), often lost in transit. My clients will receive a personalised 3 minute video about their fund performance each financial year with key items they need to consider. It simply doesn’t get any better than that for the busy individual.

Further, Forbes reveals that viewers retain 95% of information from videos, versus just 10% from text—so we're leading the charge with video reporting tailored for Trustees.
